TW0 INTERNET SITES DEALING WITH BREAST CANCER IN DIFFERENT WAYS

The incidence of breast cancer in the U.S. has more than doubled in the past 30 years. In 1964, the lifetime risk was 1 in 20. Today it's 1 in 8 (I was in that one). Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women worldwide. Breast cancer rates are the highest in industrialized countries. It is estimated that 1.2 million new diagnoses and 500,000 deaths from breast cancer will occur worldwide this year.

Visit The Climb to End Breast Cancer once a day and join the fight to eliminate the environmental causes of cancer. It takes about 30 seconds. Contributions are made by Care2's corporate sponsors. Action is coordinated through The Breast Cancer Fund. There is very little corporate support for this aspect of breast cancer prevention, as it is not of particular interest to the pharmaceutical companies whofund most breast cancer research. Thus your support is particularly important.

And then give your daily support with a click to provide free mammograms for women who are unable to afford them by clicking daily on The Breast Cancer Site. Funds are channeled through The National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing information and education to women about breast cancer. They provide free mammograms (along with breast exams, PAP smears, and breast cancer education) through grants given to designated programs for homeless, battered, and low-income women in inner city neighborhoods. (The program with which I am personally familiar not only provides excellent services but also treats women with caring and respect.)

TWO OTHER SITES WHICH HAVE RETURNED TO TE INTERNET

The Hunger Site, long a leader in on-going giving, has thankfully returned under the ownership of EcologyFund.com. This award-winning site has, to date, given more than 198 million cups of staple food to hungry people around the world.

Food is distributed by America's Second Harvest in the United States and Mercy Corps worldwide. Both organizations are high-impact programs with extremely low administrative costs.

go to The Rainforest Site

When you click on the Rainforest Site's "Donate Land - Free" button, a donation is made to the Nature Conservancy's Adopt an Acre® program. This program provides critical rainforest acquisition and management funds. This support enables the Conservancy and its in-country partner organizations to achieve their mission of protecting biological diversity. Since its beginning, the Adopt an Acre program has protected more than 550,000 acres of rainforests in Latin America and the Caribbean!
